A lot more cymbal and snare drums used for the Jazz drummer. The Metal drummer uses more tom drums, snares, and bass drum. As much as Jazz sounds faster due to the snare's build, playing the tom drums is way more challenging single handedly, so Metal wins and for the stamina of 1 hour concerts with non-stop fast drumming.

I've been playing jazz drums for close to 40 years. My Dad taught me & he was a big jazz drumming fan as well. Wish he could have heard this clip. I'de say this unique style puts him right there with the greats - no exaggeration...super stuff.

I enjoyed the metal drums more, but I feel the Jazz drummer is the better of the two. Though, I feel that's always the case when comparing a Jazz musician to another genre. Jazz musicians are on such a higher level that it doesn't even sound like music anymore. They've transcended musicality to lay bare a complexity of correct notes in correct time without being bound by any delusion of melody or mortal comprehension. It also took me way too long to realize why "avec" is in the title. I know it translates to "with" in French, but I didn't know why one word in the title was in French (it's not; I know). I'm in the USA and I don't even play drums. Why is UA-cam recommending to me Gretsch Drum's French channel?

The jazz drummers playing is actually quite sad & simple by comparison.This video was made to cater to the fragile egos of drummers of a forgotten,unpopular & obsolete style of music..still holding onto glory days long past..when people were still impressed with little snare rolls,sinple tom rolls & single kick drums.I'm a drummer that evolved past jazz long ago & I approve this comment.

One thing: I thought the fusion drummer had the metal guy stumped after a blistering solo but at 1:43 the metal guy plays a really inspired tom and double kick driven tribal beat that for me impressed me the most. The fusion solo prior was so impressive , and was probably the most impressive of the exchanges technically, but the inspired riff played by the metal drummer straight after actually had me nodding my head along with it . I favour fusion music and style in general but the response at 1:43 by a drummer who seemed his number was up caught me off guard. What a fun clip

Fun idea and a fun watch. I cannot take this anymore seriously than that. I'm a fan of both styles of music playing and like the two performing drummers in this video. If I were to lend a critical ear I would say the exchanges were not cohesive enough with each trade sounding like individual fragments clipped together. Because my critical ear opinion is really not necessary when enjoying the clip as intended I disregard it and am left with a fun and spritely exchange between two excellent drummers showcasing the wonderful sound of gretch drums. the versus word should be taken with a pinch of salt. drum battles haven't really happened since the buddy rich era and long after then drum trading had been understood as a joint drum collaboration rather than a battle. Watch the early gospel chops shed videos. The guys were giving off each other. Same thing here except without the cohesion of musical motif continuity
